The Road to the White House Goes Through Silicon Valley
The “Road to the White House” is winding through Silicon Valley. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is co-hosting an ongoing speaker series for candidates seeking the 2008 presidential nomination. This is a gathering of Silicon Valley community leaders with key decision makers co-hosted by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and its member companies. Previous speakers include candidates Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and John McCain. Please see the list of speakers for upcoming events. John McCain
U.S. Senator John McCain and Cisco Systems Chairman and CEO John Chambers were the featured speakers on ``Improving America's Business Climate and Economic Competitiveness'' during the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's 2006 Annual Public Policy Luncheon in November. They answered questions on a broad range of questions. And McCain talked about his presidential ambitions. Senator McCain touched on issues important to Silicon Valley employers and employees such as immigration reform, R&D tax credit, maintaining a skilled workforce, 1,200 members of the community participated in the Annual Silicon Valley Leadership Group Public Policy Luncheon on Friday, November 3 in San Jose. |
Hillary Clinton
U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton joined the Silicon Valley Leadership Group on May 31 2007 to share her views on our nation's competitiveness. Senator Clinton was the keynote speaker for the 4th Annual CEO Summit at Applied Materials in Sunnyvale with CEO Mike Splinter, along with co-hosts Bill Watkins, CEO of Seagate and Bruce Chizen, CEO of Adobe. Senator Clinton, a presidential candidate and recently reelected by the voters of New York for a second term, touched on immigration reform, Sarbanes-Oxley, renewable energy, education, and support for R&D tax credit. The event also culminated results from a Business Climate survey in addition to hearing from our featured speaker and a panel of CEOs about the business climate in California and the United States.

John Edwards
Former U.S. Senator and current presidential candidate John Edwards addressed the Silicon Valley Leadership Group on August 1 2007 to discuss his views on our nation's competitiveness and such issues as immigration reform, renewable energy and oil independence, housing, transportation and support for R&D. Senator Edwards was the 2004 vice presidential running mate of Senator John Kerry and is now campaigning for the 2008 presidential nomination. In recognition of Senator Edwards' advocacy for health care and healthy lifestyles and his wife Elizabeth's public battle with breast cancer, proceeds from this event will benefit the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay Area Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and its Team in Training program.
