Silicon Valley Leadership Group Supports Oakland A's Stadium Project
UThe Silicon Valley Leadership Group announced today it has endorsed the concept of the proposed new Oakland A's stadium and Baseball Village in Fremont as a project that will have a positive economic impact on the region.
"The Oakland A's are a regional economic and entertainment asset, and we are encouraged by their plans to build a stadium in Fremont," said Carl Guardino, CEO of the Leadership Group. "This will be a model project in every facet, from design to mixed-use development and state-of-the-art technology. We are particularly pleased with the potential for development of 2,900 homes as part of the plan, which positively addresses our Valley's housing challenges."
Guardino said the Leadership Group is eager to review the economic impact analysis when it is released, and plans to remain involved as specific aspects of the plan, including the housing and transportation/transit components, are announced.
The A's announced plans last November to construct a state-of-the-art baseball-only stadium on a 143-acre parcel the team has agreed to purchase from Cisco Systems located in Fremont on the west side of Interstate 880 off the Auto Mall Parkway. The new ballpark will be named Cisco Field.
